When you feel like shit. It’s time to let go.
When your body aches. It’s time to let go.
When you’re overwhelmed. It’s time to let go.
When you’re trying to control outcomes. It’s time to let go.
But let go of what? Of what???
Here’s the thing. It’s NOT about letting go of a person. Or a place. Or a memory. Or a dream.
It’s about letting go of a THOUGHT or BELIEF that is not true for you anymore, and perhaps never was. This thought or belief is out of alignment with who you really are, and your body and emotions are currently signaling that to you.
Some beliefs that I see very often in my work are:
- “I’ll never find someone who loves me.”
- “I’ll never find someone who loves me as much as he/she did.”
- “I can’t be happy here.”
- “Bad things happen to me, and it’s not fair.”
- “They shouldn’t be this way.”
- “I can’t have the things I want.”
When we think thoughts that are out of alignment with the truth, our body responds. It gets sick (DIS-EASED). It contracts. We feel discomfort, sadness, confusion, fear.
And this is a beautiful thing!
Why?
Because it’s the most solid evidence there is that we innately know how to take care of ourselves. Which means that we are always ok.
You are not helpless.
If your physical body still has the capacity to register sensations, and your emotional body still has the capacity to experience emotions….you’re OK!
Now all you need to do is pay attention. Listen. Inquire.
What are you thinking right now that is so far off from the truth of who you are that your body is going crazy trying to tell you to let go of it? To get rid of it. That it’s not healthy. That it’s not serving you.
What is that belief that you’ve picked up somewhere, probably from a very young age, that you are now ready to see as false? That belief about yourself. That belief about other people. That belief about life.
Typical beliefs we pick up from childhood are:
- “I’m not good enough.”
- “Nobody likes me.”
- “Life is meaningless.”
- “It’s my responsibility to make them happy.”
- “There is not enough. Something is lacking.”
Finding that thought that is causing our physical-emotional discomfort is not always easy because we need to wade through an entire epic story to get to it. That’s ok. Just remember that the STORY is not the cause of your suffering. It’s your THOUGHTS about the story that cause your suffering. So whittle down the story. Keep whittling it down. Until you find those thoughts that are at the root.
And then?
Let go.
And when they arise again? Let go.
And then?
Find the BEST feeling thought you can come up with in the moment, and think it. Feel the sensations that that new thought creates in your body. Feel your vibration rise.
And then? Take action from that space. Do what feels like the most fun and exciting thing you can do right now.
Repeat.
Watch your life transform. 🙂
