All the great spiritual teachings of our world teach the same thing:
Love is all there really is. Love is the answer.
This world was created out of Love. We are here to learn, experience, and share Love.
When we feel Love in the presence of another, they are not “giving” us Love, they are REFLECTING the Love that we are all made of. The degree to which we feel Love in that moment mirrors the degree to which we are connected with ourselves in that moment, connected to our true nature, which is Love.
Did you ever notice that when you are in a state of depression or self-hate or shame, it doesn’t matter how “amazing” and “beautiful” people tell you you are or how many times they say “I love you”? Because in that moment, you are blinded by darkness and the light of Love cannot enter.
Nothing in the outside world can penetrate our internal experience if we don’t allow it.
We have complete free choice over our thoughts. If we do not believe we are worthy of Love, no person place or thing on Earth can change that. No God or angel can change that. No amount of money can change that. No amount of fame can change that. No amount of lovers can change that.
How many people do you know who are in relationships or marriages and yet don’t really feel the Love of their partner? They doubt and question it, then push it away, then complain that it is never enough. Then they switch partners, and alas, again, not enough Love!
This is because Love is an experience we have inside of ourselves (as is every other experience) and yet we are conditioned from birth to seek it from outside. We may give it different names – success, praise, recognition, approval, wealth, stature, respect – but in the end, it is Love we seek.
Since it is Love we seek, and Love can only come from INSIDE, then no configuration of OUTER circumstances can ever fill that void. Hence all the rich, famous, and powerful people running around our world . . . still unhappy, still lonely, still feeling without love.
And how many single people do you know who treat themselves with an utter lack of Love and self-care and yet fantasize that someone will sweep into their lives and GIVE them the Love and care they’re missing? Or who unquestioningly believe that they can Love and care for another person when they treat themselves with such disregard?
Maya Angelou wisely says, “I do not trust people who don’t love themselves and yet tell me, ‘I love you.’ There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.”
When such people finally enter the committed relationship they so wished for, they very quickly learn that their partner is not an ATM who dispenses Love on demand. They also learn that if they are not able to feel Love within themselves, they will not be able to feel it fully from their partner nor express Love freely to their partner.
SIDE NOTE: Such conflicts show that, contrary to New Age lore, being in a relationship is NOT some accomplishment that proves how much one loves themselves or how open one is to receiving love. All relationships (romantic or otherwise) mirror our state of consciousness. You can be in a painful, abusive relationship or a deeply nourishing relationship, depending on your state of consciousness. You can be a miserable single or a jubilant single, depending on your state of consciousness. No matter your relationship status, you are LEARNING LOVE. This is the journey of the human soul.
So, what happens within relationships and families and nations and THE PLANET when we don’t recognize the Love that we are all made of, the Love that is to be found only within?
We resort to using THINGS to substitute for that Love we can’t access within ourselves.
Jewelry, vacations, sex, praise, good grades, profitable businesses, making the football team, marriage and babies = these become our symbols of Love. We either give them to others or do them for others or demand them from others. It is always about the OTHER, because we don’t know how to look within – perhaps we’re too afraid, perhaps we’re too busy, perhaps we don’t even realize that’s the place to look.
Our relationships become a series of endless transactions in an attempt to receive Love – the Love that is always already here.
We have forgotten the Love that we ARE.
When that happens (and it happens from very young), we lose our connection with ourselves and others.
We begin to chase, to seek, and to demand.
We begin to feel pressure, obligation, and expectations.
Fear and lack become our dominant reality.
From within this dis-ease, we lose our sanity.
What crazy idea do you think our world economy currently runs on?
It runs on the notion that you can buy Love.
You can purchase Love by having a certain body, by achieving a certain degree of success, by influencing a certain number of people, by owning a certain kind of car or bag, by living in a beautiful home.
Well, if so, then only one things matters: Having a lot of money. Or marrying someone with a lot of money.
Greed. Wanting. Striving. Seeking. Struggling. Scheming. Manipulating.
All in the futile search for Love from the outside.
No one on Earth is immune to this conditioning.
If we want to truly be happy, free, and to know and share Love, it is our responsibility to disentangle ourselves from these lies and to wake up to the Love within.
We have co-created quite a mess on this planet, all in the pursuit of Love.
We are DYING for Love.
We are KILLING for Love.
All the while, Love is right here in every cell of our body and every particle of the Universe.
It is time to wake up.
It is time to remember.
You are Love.
Love is all there is.
Love is the answer.
