You know those dreams that you know are not “just” dreams? Those dreams that feel more real than usual and carry powerful messages for you? You feel almost awake as you experience them.
I had one of those dreams a few weeks ago, just before leaving for a 4-day Awakening the Illuminated Heart workshop in the desert of Israel – photo below.
It was a dream where I was flying. I’ve had countless of these dreams since I was a child. Often times I’m escaping something, usually the eyes of people on the ground who are not supposed to see me, or people who are chasing me.
In some of my flying dreams I have a difficult time flying. I have to really try. I often have to pump my arms and body upward, and my “flying” is more like bouncing through the air, a bit higher with each bounce.
But this dream was different.
The moment I willed it, I shot straight up into the endless night sky. It was effortless. The amount of stars was stunningly beautiful, and the blackness behind them was so dark and mysterious. I was flying through galaxies. It was exhilarating.
Suddenly, I heard the voice of Mother Mary. I didn’t see her, I just knew it was her. Her energy was strong but tender, and unbelievably loving.
Loudly and clearly she said, “Be like a child.”
I continued flying, her words sinking deep into me.
What does it mean to be like a child?
For me it means to return to our innocence. An open heart. The natural state before fears and limitations are taught to us.
Mini musing: Isn’t it amazing how many stories we have about the power of children . . . and how they struggle to keep that power as they grow up? How adults often fear and try to steal this power? (Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials fantasy series is a deep and gorgeous exploration of this theme.)
Then Mother Mary gently reminded me that if I wanted to fly to a part of the sky that had more light, on the other side of the Earth, I could.
Again, the moment I decided this is what I wanted, it happened.
I found myself flying through the most gorgeous, radiant orange sky I’ve ever seen.
And then I woke up. I instantly thought of my favorite Alexi Murdoch song.
I wanted to share this dream with you because it carries a message that’s been following me since my ayahuasca days:
We can quit our job. We can be an artist. Or a writer. We can move across the globe. We can defy our parents’ wishes. We can heal ourselves. We can risk it all for love. We can take a stand against things we find offensive. (Mark my words, one day soon I’m starting a campaign in Tel Aviv to put an end to all the dog shit on the sidewalks, hehe).
Our power is truly amazing. I’ve seen it. You’ve seen it. Maybe in dreams, maybe in waking life, maybe on TV, maybe in your imagination.
Now it’s time to own it. Run with it. Fly with it!
Here’s a photo of soul family from the Awakening the Illuminated Heart workshop.

Thank you for the description of your flying dream. I was Peter Pan for a moment and it was magical… Yes we could all be easier on ourselves if we acted and thought more as children x

Woww!! For sure, Lisa. I’m trying to remind myself more often to be like a child. It really changes the way you view the world.
