Reiki Healing
Many people discover Reiki as they journey along a path of healing and spiritual discovery, seeking a way to connect deeper with themselves and the natural world.
During a Reiki session, while laying or sitting down, you are gently supported to relax and allow the spiritual energy flowing from the practitioner to you.
The practitioner does not manipulate or direct energy, but rather allows Reiki to flow through their hands and go where it is naturally guided to go within your body and energy field.
This meeting of the Reiki energy coming from the practitioner’s hands with the Reiki that is already within your own body activates you to draw upon this spiritual energy yourself, build it within yourself, and allow it to flow more freely within yourself.
As Reiki flows, it energizes the body meridians as well as nourishes and balances the organs and energy centers (chakras).
Essentially, a Reiki session supports your body’s own natural ability to move into equilibrium and harmony.
Note: Sessions are always conducted with the receiver fully clothed. Depending on the preference of the client, the practitioner places their hands either with or without physically contacting the body. Hands are never placed directly on the breasts or genital area.
What exactly is Reiki?
Reiki 霊気 refers to the modern system of spiritual practice and hands-on healing that was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui (1865-1926).
Reiki is also the word used to refer to the spiritual energy that flows during a hands-on Reiki session.
This energy is entirely natural, and already animates all living things. Many people refer to Reiki as “universal life force energy” or “Source/God energy.”
In terms of practice, Reiki is a system developed in Japan that teaches and empowers us to guide that energy intentionally, for healing and spiritual development.
Reiki sessions are offered by practitioners who have been trained in the Reiki lineage of spiritual practice, and have been attuned to this spiritual energy by a Reiki Master teacher.
Note: To understand more about attunement, consider researching the tradition of spiritual empowerment or dharma transmission in the Chan/Zen and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Many Western people have difficulty understanding attunement, because such a concept doesn’t have a strong parallel in the Abrahamic religions.
Often, people who come to experience the power of Reiki are later inspired to receive attunement themselves, both for self-healing and in service to the healing of others.
Who may especially benefit from a Reiki session?
Those experiencing stress or anxiety, especially chronic
Those experiencing physical pain and tension in the body
Those seeking spiritual growth and intuition development
Those recovering from acute injuries or managing chronic pain
“The Reiki method is not only to cure diseases. Its true purpose is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual abilities with which human beings were endowed from birth.”
~ From the memorial stone of Mikao Usui (1865-1926), founder of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Healing System
What’s the outcome of a Reiki session?
The outcome of a Reiki session is different for each unique person, and depends largely on your current situation and life experience.
Benefits may include feeling peaceful and rejuvenated, mentally clear, and more spiritually connected. Those dealing with various physical conditions may experience temporary relief from pain and discomfort.
Since the body and mind are inter-connected, as Reiki supports the busy mind to settle down, physical tension in the body usually dissipates and a more relaxed and open state is achieved.
Moreover, as the parasympathetic nervous system is activated by means of this relaxed state, cellular resources are able to go where the body needs them the most.
In this way, Reiki helps naturally boost your immune system’s functioning.
